I have lived in Evanston over 20 years. My husband, Wynn, and I have four kids: one in elementary school, one in middle school and two in high school. As our children have grown, I have developed a genuine passion for community service both in the schools and in the larger Evanston community.
I earned my BA in Economics with honors from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Following graduation, I was a research analyst with Mathematica Policy Research in Washington, DC, focusing on health policy. I then went on to graduate school, receiving an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
I moved to Evanston in 1988, working at Baxter Healthcare Corporation and later for Reed Exhibition Companies, where I helped to develop their trade-show business by establishing strategies in both existing and new markets. Since having children, I have continued to work part-time for Reed, conducting industry research and market analysis.
I am, however, most proud of my deep roots in our school community. I have been a volunteer at all levels-from room parent to PTA board member. Some of the highlights of my District 65 and community experiences include:
- PTA president at Dewey School
- PTA treasurer at Dewey School
- School Improvement Team at Nichols and Dewey
- Communications chair at both schools, creating their first email databases.
- Nichols Teacher Appreciation Chair
- Numerous volunteer activities in the classroom and school
- Evanston Baseball and Softball Fest Chair
- Evanston Baseball and Softball Association Board Member
- YWCA "Kick In for the Pool" Campaign Committee
- First Presbyterian Church Children's Ministry Chair
I learned a great deal about the community and the district while serving in these positions. In particular, my job as PTA president gave me the opportunity to get to know principals, teachers and parents at other D65 schools. Through these relationships, I learned about the many challenges our schools face and the strategies that help them succeed. The district is clearly moving in the right direction. Student achievement is up, and never before have I seen so many engaged parents eager to improve their children's educational experience. We have a tremendous opportunity to build on this momentum to ensure the long-term stability and excellence of our district.
